Leanne Louise – The Rain (Youtube Review)
The Panic Awards is just days away, so now that Arts Blurb has shifted her nasty cold bug, it’s time to catch up and profile another nominee. This time I’m heading over to the ‘Best Solo’ category to take a look at Leanne Louise’s latest Youtube release. This video was filmed by Divine Media, for something called the ‘After Dark Sessions’ which aims to showcase some of the hottest unsigned talent around.
Leanne Louise has chosen a Michael Mcdonald cover for this video, and is filmed in the corner of a Colchester nightspot, with Denis Diaz on guitar. On paper it sounded like an unusual choice for a cover song, and I was expecting something a little more urban, but as it turned out, this song suited Leanne’s style well. Although this was obviously recorded for broadcast online, it does feel like you are watching people unaware a camera is there. The whole thing has a light-hearted, very relaxed feel to it, and Leanne looks like she is really enjoying herself. It’s a summer jam with mates kind of vibe, and shows off a side to this up and coming singer, that I’ve not seen before.
All in all, a good choice of cover, controlled, distinctive vocals, and the mix of vocal and guitar for this video made me feel nicely chilled afterwards. Find out more about Leanne Louise at her Facebook Page, or on Soundcloud.
