The Return Of TOTP (Kind of!?!)

Repeats, repeats, I am so bored of repeats! Well some of them anyway! Because, quite frankly if I scroll through the channels and see one more episode of Friends I might be tempted to scream or throw something. That said, some repeats can be a good thing, a chance to see things you have missed, and relive old memories and classic TV moments. The question is will the announcement that TOTP is returning be a good or a bad thing?

I used to love seeing TOTP every week, watching my favourite bands, and enjoying the excitement of the chart rundown when it actually meant something! So in a way, I have missed the show, and the general lack of good quality music performances and programs on TV. The drivel on some of the digital channels, and inane interviewing skills some people display does not excite me in the slightest.

But this isn’t a brand new original TOTP that’s returning (boo!), it’s (in grand TV tradition) a round of repeats, running through the archives of TOTP, episode by episode, starting way back in 1976. I have a feeling the nation, initially at least will enjoy this trip down memory lane, and (like me) have a good laugh at the outfits and the songs that made it on to the show! Whether the nostalgia will last until we get up to the final episodes in 2006, I’m not sure! 

I have mixed feelings, I’d like to see some of the old episodes return, but at the same time, I wish there was something new and original on TV as well. I’m not sure TOTP as it was would fit in to todays music industry, but who knows, maybe it would be good to see it back, or something new could capture the same magic!
